Before You Google Your Cold Symptoms, Read This
Google and AI can point you in a direction — but a pharmacist-guided OTC guide gives you something they can't: clinical credibility, product context, and real guidance tailored to you. |
Let's be honest. When you feel terrible at 11pm and your nose won't stop running, you're not calling your doctor. You're Googling.
And Google will give you something. Maybe WebMD. Maybe a Reddit thread. Maybe an AI-generated summary that sounds confident but has no idea you're also taking blood pressure medication.
This is the gap Mindful Medicine was built to fill.
I'm not here to tell you that Google is useless or that AI is dangerous. I use both. They have their place. But when it comes to deciding what to put in your body — or your child's body — there are things a search engine simply cannot do.
It cannot verify your medication list.
Combination OTC products can interact with prescription medications in ways that matter. A search result doesn't know what's in your medicine cabinet. A pharmacist does.
It cannot tell you what's actually effective.
In 2023, the FDA concluded that oral phenylephrine — the "PE" in dozens of popular cold products — is not effective as a nasal decongestant. Most search results still haven't caught up. A pharmacist has.
It cannot account for your specific situation.
Are you pregnant? Over 65? Managing hypertension or asthma? Search results give you general information. A pharmacist gives you applicable guidance.
That's why I created the Mindful Medicine Pharmacist OTC Guides. Each one covers a specific condition — colds and allergy, cough, heartburn, GI relief — and walks you through what's actually happening in your body, what to try at home first, what the OTC aisle actually offers, and when to stop self-treating and see a provider.
Written by a PharmD. In plain language. For real decisions.
Think of it this way: use Google to get oriented. Use the guide to get informed. And if you want someone to look at your specific situation — medications, conditions, history — book a consultation. That's what I'm here for.
Your health is worth more than a search result.
